Ok I'm going to try and spread my wings here and move on to learning a new DD variety...and this one really has me lost. First can someone explain what they mean when they say "with a spread towards"?

Todays question is would any of these be considered DD due to extra thickness in some of the letters? I think some are also notched.

Have you checked other examples. That pretty much is the design that year:

Do not open on a phone. The image is large and will take forever to open.

spread is the umbrella term for severity of the doubling.

And I am not an Ike guy, so I will let Jbuck handle this....

Spread is a term used to describe the different hub marks on a doubled die when the die is created. It often shows a wider area on the centers of the devices or even two set of devices on some doubled dies. This spread is showing how far off the hub was,(Class one DD rotated)

Class two, on the outside edge direction on the devices)

or how warped the hub was, (class 6 DD).

The spread can also show up when the older dies were created with two different dies. (an older spreading hub, or a fresh hub used on the three or more steps of hubbing to create a die. The class 9 doubled dies show on the single squeeze process. Instead of showing the normal 1-8 classes of doubled dies,

the class 9 creates a doubling of design on the central area and sometimes altering the design distorted.
