..a new Quarter Program Series in 2010?
OH brother ! by Susan Headley State Quarter fans are in for a treat - Congress has passed the "National Parks Quarters" bill, which calls for 5 quarters per year for 11 years beginning in 2010 (D.C. and territories are included this time.) The National Parks State Quarters program was passed by unanimous vote in Congress this past July, but it sat in committee in the Senate until suddenly emerging on the consent calendar last Wednesday. It quietly sailed through, and is expected to by signed into law by the end of this week. This means that beginning in 2010, (as soon as Washington, D.C. and the U.S. territories get their "state" quarters next year), we'll be off and running with another 5-coin-per-year, one-per-state quarter dollar program again, this time featuring national parks and historic sites. Conder mentioned it in this post (at the bottom of the page), but I do think this sort of news deserves its own post, so thanks!  I am not sure if I really have an opinion yet. I already consider my 1932~1998 Washington quarter and my 1999~2008 Statehood Quarter albums to be complete. I guess whatever is to come for the next eleven years is fine by me! I have not thought much about the Territorial Quarters nor do I have any idea where I will put them just yet. Will I add the page to the SHQ (which will require a new binder since I have no room to add a page to my existing album) or start a new album for 2009 and beyond? Maybe Dansco will make an album to hold 2009~whenever Territorial and National Parks & Historic Sites series, or I might just make my own album with the appropriate pages. Decisions decisions! I'm not too surprised. However, I think I'll wait for that quarter honoring the newly founded "Bulk Quarter National Park", where the excess billions of coins will be heaped into a new monument to past presidents. It will be like Mt. Rushmore but really shiny.  |

The U.S. Mint sure is coming out with alot of new coins for 2009 I think I will collect them all when they do come out and wait until 2015 to purchase the album for them!  |

Just when you thought you had the quarter collection all finished and complete, now this! Well I guess the program brought in billions in revenue and all considered, if you were the feds and your program was doing very well, need I say more.I just wish the powers to be would do something with the other coinage,ie, bring back 95% copper cents, and more silver in coins like the halves, no dis-respect intended, MR KENNEDY it's time for a change, also the dime in silver only, no more clad, well just my opinion!!  PS: I know I will collect the new quarters, just thought I would give my opinion...BE WELL... |

5 ounces silver coins demoninated as quarters, whats next one pound copper numismatic Half Cents or half ton aluminum quarter mil's this stuff is getting rediculous. |

Have you ever thought about how many MILLIONS of dollars are pulled from circulation ? That's money in the bank for the fed . and we collect something that for all intent and purpose will never appreciate in value  just the ramblings of an old tug-boater Coggie |

Another quarter program is a bit much, but it makes money, keeps some change in the coins, attacts new collectors. All good for us.
I too will collect them, but I'm not going to get excited about them...until I get close to completing the set.

Any bets as to what they will do to the quarter in 2020, once this is done? I am thinking they will have another commemorative series for each vice president or SecTreas or every congressman who ever served or something.

I see no reason why they wouldn't be available. The silver proof sets restarted in 1992 and have been going for 17 years now. They will probably even still be available in a silver quarter-only set(I think 2004 was the first year for that) as well as the full set. |

I haven't decided if I'm slightly interested in the State Park Qtrs. or slightly annoyed with the idea of them. But, I'm thinking, at least at this point, that I'm only going to get proof & silver proof sets of them and not do a "circulated album"....  ....not enough reward upon completion for me.....and with so many Billions likely minted......kind of a let down as far as having a proud prized completed set when they're done. But I could change my mind.... |

In 2019 the Secretary of the Treasury gets to decide if they are going to do a second go around on the national parks quarter. That series may not end until 2032. |

I can't believe they're going to do ANOTHER quarter set!! I mean, I love moderns, I love SBAS, Ikes, Roosies and Sacs, but the State Quarters and the Presidential dollars have held no interest to me. I think that if they want to do circulating commems, they should do sets that only last a couple years and have a reasonable amount of coins, like the Westward nickel series. I think that one was handled perfectly. |
