I thought my RedBook would be helpful. Not so much. I have begun a Kennedy half dollar album and Eisenhower dollar album simultaneously. I'm looking for a list of what proof and uncirculated sets contain both coins so I can crack them. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Assembling a complete set of Eisenhower dollars by date, mintmark, and popular varieties requires a total of 34 coins. It's not an easy task, it's not that simple on how they were sold. to answer your question though, you'd want the 1973, 1974 mint and proof sets, then the 1977 and 1978 mint and proof sets. probably also do the 1975/1976 sets for those Ikes and kennedys. I don't think there's an easy way to get a nice 71 or 72 P or D Ike without flat out buying them, I don't think they came in the mint sets at all. for those two years only gotten from circulation. Those are going to be the problem of the set, FINDING NICE AND AFFORDABLE P+D uncirculated Ikes forget about high mint state really, lol. I'd think MS64's gonna run you like $30-$50 each. Proof Eisenhower dollars were minted from 1971 through 1978, which is the duration of the series. While all regular-issue Eisenhower dollars were made with copper-nickel clad. in 1971 and 1972, proofs were struck as 40% silver numismatic specimens that were sold individually in brown-colored boxes (it's a wood grained cardboard box with a plastic lens holder inside). 40% silver issues were produced from 1971 until 1976. I believe theres 11 proofs with the Type 1 and type 2 clad 1976... 71-74 they made "brown Ikes" and "blue ikes" for sale to collectors, the brown is proof, the blue is uncirculated, they have S mintmarks. that's how you'd get the Proof S 1971, and 72, as well as the uncirculated S ones. Also keep in mind Ikes didn't strike up well due to their size and design. you'd want to be selective on what you come across if you want to get nice examples. As you'd imagine the sets have been cherry picked over the years, most of the nicer ones been picked through and sent for grading.

The Ike was not added to the uncirculated mint sets until 1973.
It was not added to the proof sets until 1975 (the first year of the 1776-1976 dual dated quarter, half, and dollar).
From 1971 to 1974 the 40% silver Ikes were issued solo in blue envelope (uncirculated) and brown boxes (proof).
1776-1976 dual dated 40% silver Ikes were issued in three coins sets along with a 40% quarter and 40% silver half. Both unciruclated and proof three coin sets were issued.

Odd that I did not see Big-Kingdom's post until I submitted my reply. I supposed I had the tab loaded longer than I had thought.

jbuck is not a "normal" Ike collector, but I think the typical Ike collection would have all the Red Book variants. I started my Ike album the same way with proof and uncirculated sets I already had and a couple of the individually-issued silver coins. However, as I started looking at purchasing some of the other coins, I noticed it was actually cheaper to buy a complete set in an album at an estate sale or auction than it was to buy the coins I was missing (mostly sliver). I ended up buying a complete set and swapping out my original coins if they were better. In truth, it is an unsatisfying way to complete a set, but I couldn't justify buying coins one-by-one when it was obviously going to be more expensive. I should note that I have an average sort of set, ungraded. Proofs and uncirculated, but not top examples. The link under jbuck's post shows his fancy-shmancy set. If that's your goal, you will have to cherry pick the exact coins you want.

@BearlyHere: I think you might have a typo in your post that lists the Ike dollars in your collection - "79 S Eisenhower Type 1." I thought the Ike series stopped in 1978 - but maybe there are error coins with which I'm not familiar?
