I gave up a little over a year ago. I've still got one large bucket left which I'll get rid of as soon as my 'dump' bank opens their lobby again.
I think just transporting a load of copper cents would deplete any sales profit.

@T-BOP... at that price, that's almost 3 cents of bullion value per 95% copper cent.

On the other hand, don't stash away so many copper cents that your floors give way / fall through!

Save 5,000 copper cents, drag them to your local smelter (don't bother stopping by the LCS), and see what they'll offer you. Report back please!

Best to collect copper wire - it's pure, no refining costs.

With scrap bronze coins, most efficient to recycle back into new bronze coins. Alloy only has to be assayed for quality control.

Let me know when it hits $1 million a pound and I'll be a millionaire.

The high value is of limited benefit if you can't sell them as scrap. There is no market like for silver coins, buying and selling them for more than face value. Should that happen it could be a different story.

Agreed why bother if you can't just take 'em down to the local yard. Even the yards are picky and they want shiny and bright. And you're not gonna get melt price anyway.

I understand where you guys are coming from .But you young whipper snappers should think twice about this . What if copper should go to $6,$7,$8 a pound . And the Government should say OK, It is now legal to melt U.S. Copper coins.
Are you going to kick yourselves in the butt for not accumulating all you could have. In your early days ?

I keep every one I find, mainly because they are old though, not because I plan to melt them down some day.

My original plan was to keep them from being melted by other opportunists.
