The Wife and I went up to see My Sister for Her birthday this past weekend, and while We were there, we stopped by My Nephew's shop. He has a copper round store on ebay. And from what Sis' tells Me He's doing pretty good at it. Recently He bought out a mint in Ca, the press,die's,ect.. While waiting for the press too be shipped the dies are being used at another mint. The floor had to be reinforced, so a 24" thick pad was cut and poured. This pad is needed not only for the weight of the press, but also for all of the vibration produced by the machine itself. He tells Me the press runs off of air and showed Me His air compresser. It looked to to be about a 250/300 gal tank with a three phase motor setting on top. At first, He said, they will only be doing 1oz rounds, and in the future, they will expand into doing 1oz bars,5 and 10oz rounds. Maybe one day, if I refine enough gold, I could convince Him to mint some coins for Me. When He does get His press in, I'll go back for some in operation pictures.

Legally OK to make replica coins. I would be tempted to buy a replica .900 fine gold Walker Half dollar, provided that the die is marked 'REPLICA'.

As I understand it, there was a hang up with shipping. Something about a shield for the feeding mechanism needed too be built/installed, and of course, dealing with covid. All of which has been taken care of, and He was hoping for it to ship this week. He has several dies (copy rights) for the copper one oz rounds. like the Flying Eagle cent, Wheat Cents, a Liberty seated coin, ect.. I didn't notice if He had Walker or not. When He gets it up and running I'll go back and pay more attention next time to what He has. I could post a link, but I don't know if it's allowed.?

That's very cool. Does he just do copper, or will he be getting into silver as well?

Currently, He has a ebay store that sells a wide variety of copper rounds. He's having to buy the rounds, blanked and upset, and then minted. One of the ways He can cut the cost of the middle man out is to mint His own. He's planning on eventually doing 1 oz bars,5oz and 10oz rounds in copper, but after that, I'm guessing that it depends on how business goes. If He could make a living at it ,I'm sure He would.

Got a text from My Sister this morning with some new pictures and it looks like the press has showed up. I don't know how much it weighs, but from the looks of the lift truck,it must be quite a bit. Getting it set in place. Adjustment/ trial runs? The Nephew playing with His new power toy,and so production begins. When I'm back up that way hopefully I'll get to squish some discs too.

Great to see & hear about industry succeeding.
What a toy!
That is a lot of copper coins in the price of that machine + delivery.
Wishing your nephew all the best. Looks like he is fully on track.
Great thread! Keep us in touch.

I'd love to have this! Please update us with images of the strikes. I'd REALLY like to see this in operation and see any resulting "errors" that might happen on purpose.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
