1982 No Mint Lincoln Cent Worth?

It's a common '82 large date copper cent from the Philadelphia mint in circulated condition. Worth one cent.

I am sure no 1982 cent ever went for 50,000. Even the 82 D small date copper would be worth nowhere near that much. There may have been one on Etsy asking for that, but I can guarantee it never sold for that!

If you saw a 1982 copper cent that was listed for $50,000 it was most likely on Etsy.

Etsy listing prices on most error and variety coins have nothing to do with the coins true value. The seller can list a coin with ANY price they want. Most of the coins are incorrectly identified pocket change that sellers think are "Like the coin that I saw on Heritage (or any other auction site) for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!"

The coin you have is one of 10,712,525,000 minted, so it's not rare. The mints were changing from bronze (copper) to copper plated zinc planchets and had two different date designs in 1982, so there are seven different types of regular issue cents.

The 1982 cent that is valuable is the 1982-D that was struck on bronze (copper) planchets. Only a couple of these are known to exist and can sell for thousands of dollars. These are transitional errors that have the small date 1982-D on a coin that weighs 3.11 grams. Hundreds of 1982-D copper plated zinc cents have been listed as rare because they have been misidentified as the copper strike.
