Extra Shiny Lincoln Cent 2020 = Is Just A 2020 Cent

PPorro Valued Member United States 123 Posts	Posted 03/03/2021 09:56 am This is difficult to photograph, but the color is more yellow or gold, and the surface is much smoother. I thought it was from a mint set? Doesn't look plated, just looks like a really good strike? Change bank find, and it's just different from any other new cent in there. Related to this, and yes I have found other shiny cents, along with very new frosted surface cents. Looks like the difference is just new and old. 1947-1962 bronze (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) 48 grains 3.11 1962-1982 gilding metal (95% copper, 5% zinc) 48 grains 3.11 1982-present copper-plated zinc (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) 38.6 grains 2.5 There are 2.5gm cents that have a more copper color, not as smooth of a surface and then the 3.11 cents have more of a golden tone very smooth. I couldn't find the thread, but 1962 these could be crossover compositions, but no way to tell beyond expensive testing. The 1982 is easy, just keep weighing 1982 cents and hope I find one that's 3.11 gms. Any other cent oddity that I can find as I check the weight of each of these, before they go to the coin counter at the bank? Report this Post to the Staff
