I acquired this coin as collateral from a friend whom I lent money to, I haven't found many of these online and I don't know much about the coin, as I am also new to the coin collecting world. Unfortunately I haven't been paid off by my friend and I might have to rid of the coin to get back what I gave to him, I am hoping this coin is worth $1,000 USD... because that was the amount of the loan.

If someone with more knowledge could enlighten me on the possible value a coin like this might have, I would be very grateful, thank you :)[

This coin appears to be a counterfeit version of an extremely rare coin. Search 'Judd-1315' to see genuine examples.

Hope you didn't loan him too much.

This is a poor counterfeit, worth nothing. Google "1873 Pattern Trade dollar - images" for pics of the real thing.

Unfortunately I believe this one to be a counterfeit.
The denticles on the OP's coin look completely different compared to 1873 T$1 Trade dollar, Judd-1315, Pollock-1458, R.4

Definitely a counterfeit.
The stars are wrong
The face is wrong
The font on the reverse is wrong
And these are just a few of the differences.

There is nothing on that coin that is even remotely close to right. Horrible counterfeit.

Here is a genuine example, so you can compare. You are holding a coin that has no value.

If your "friend" can't pay you back, then I can only blame you for naively accepting something like this as collateral without doing your homework.

Yep, looks like a cheap fake to me too (probably cast from the pics).

Time for your "friend" to get a visit from "Guido and Vinny" to "discuss" the loan and collateral.
