I've seen a few coins like this, shiny, almost polished. I always wonder if they were like that or if circulation did that, because this quarter, in particular, is almost mirrorlike, but has mint luster. Any advice on these coins? I couldn't really find an answer on the internet.

Possibly from an uncirculated roll that has made its way into circulation. However, if you touch a coin like this, it will leave fingerprint marks all over it -- if not immediately, soon.

The fields look too flat and shiny to me for it to be a normal, uncirculated coin. Do you see the copper core in the edge? If not, it could be plated with silver or platinum.

It's a clad, but I make sure not to touch the field.

I've gotten these in the past. On more than one occasion I saw the clerk "bang" open a roll prior to putting it my hand.

is there a copper line on the edge? I'm thinking either it was polished by someone, or it's platinum plated. some sellers do this and charge a big markup, when the person that buys them finds out it's worth only a quarter, then they spend it.

it's not how it should look even if it was newly minted, there's no flow lines whatsoever. it's either been polished, or plated and then polished.

The one in the pic is a plated quarter. Likely in silver. Millions of the State Quarters were plated in either silver or gold and sold as sets for high premiums. Many of them have ended up back in circulation. The plating adds no significant value.

As I said, thought I may not have made it clear: I said "it's a clad" but I meant yes, there is a copper line on the edge.

I guess I'd say it's polished, then.

It has luster, wouldn't it be polished out then?
