Hello all I have a bag of old silver coins and I need to know how to figure out what coins are worth.. Any ideas?

We have many questions--most of which can be answered if we have a few sharp photos to look at. Are the coins a mix of US and other? Are they dimes, dollars, quarters, etc.? Condition? Looking forward to the pics.

First, you'd want to sort the coins by country and type and check to make sure you aren't sitting on any key or semi-key dates -- unlikely, but worth a look. Assuming it's all "junk" silver (40 or 90% silver, for most modern U.S. coins), you can easily convert the silver content to bullion value using any number of on-line calculators, based on the current spot price of silver. Folks on the forum can help more if you have more specifics.

 To CCF , Well assuming that they are U.S. coins , I recommend that you buy '' The Red Book ''a guide to United States coins . With that you can look up dates ,mint marks ,mintages and grades . There are prices for each coin by grades but don't go crazy , those prices are inflated ,just use them as a guide .  |

To the Forum If they are all silver, they have to be worth at least bullion value. We are going to need, as previously stated, a lot more information to determine if you have anything that is worth more. |

Another thing you can do is to take some of those coins out, put them all out on a flat surface and try to get some good photos for us to help look at them for you. Also it would be good to see the reverses to get a better feel of the total coin. If you have quite a few coins, you could put a small number out at a time and we all will help you see what you got.   with all of the above as well. |

1. For U.S. coins that you recognize, go to ebay, click on "Advanced Search," type in the coin identification (e.g. "1944-D Mercury dime") mark the box that says "Sold Items" and hit Search. COmpare to a coin in similar condition to your. 2. For foreign coins you may be able to figure out the country, denomination and dte, and can do the same thing on ebay (e.g., "France 20 francs, 1952"). 3.
