Doubled ear lobe . I looked around and did not find any info on a DDO ear lobe for this date . So my question is it a Doubled die ?

Rick, yours is a normal ear. The lobe is one of the high spots on the obverse and thus subject to hits. Easily spotted on new coins but as time passes blends in with the wear on the coin and gives the appearance of doubling.

Machine Doubling often affects this area as well. The metal always looks pushed instead of doubled like the 1984P-1DO-001. I often check this area and it is sometimes affected with the out devices machine doubled.

1. Any possibility could exist that additional doubled ear doubled dies exist. Just because only certain dies have been reported doesn't mean that's all there is. 2. The coin in the original post is a D mint. The coin in the second post is a P mint. They are very different in that respect alone. 3. The coin in the original post is Machine Doubling or coin damage - not a doubled die. 4. There is a very nice doubled die obverse known for 1984D cents, but it does not affect the ear. It has to do with liberty and the date.
