Is there any difference between State Quarters that come from the circulated sets (or from the bank) and the uncirculated sets one might get from the mint. The mint charges a $3 dollar difference, so I think there must be something . Thank you

The Mint uses the term "circulated" to mean coins struck by production methods used for the coins that get shipped out tothe banks. They use the term "Uncirculated" to mean coins struck by methods used for the coins that would go in mint sets, newer dies and a little higher striking pressure. Possibly a slower striking speed. So the "Uncirculated" MIGHT look a little better or be a little better struck, but I doubt from a blind random sampling if you could consistently tell which was which.

Yes, I just chatted with the US mint and they said the difference is in the 'finish'. The spokesman said if two were laid side by side, there would be a discernible difference, but I am not so sure on that. I have found some stunning circulated quarters in change that I have received. The spokesman was unclear when the mint started offering circulated sets......anyone know ?
