Took months of digging, but I'm 90% sure what the image is from. There is definitely another coin's image on the obverse and reverse. But we don't want to take the fun out of it for you sleuths or let confirmation bias cloud my judgment. Real mystery to us at this point is how on Earth could the front and back of another coin be struck on this penny. We're complete noobs, but we're kind of leaning towards that it is a fake, if not someone at the mint was messing with around. You all discuss and We'll be back in a couple hours to tell you what we think we found. Sorry, best pictures I could get, I'm still learning the scope also. (Hint- turn Lincoln to face down to put the other image upright.)

That's great to know thank! Soooo it's an error? We didn't give it a category though due to us knowing we don't know, ya know. All I do know is that it looks like it went through as a planchet for a bigger coin and once you see it you cant un-see it. (hint 1984 is related to the other coins image.

Soooo it's not an error.
Zinc rot is damage. Spend it while there is still something left to it.

Not a minting error. Lots of post strike damage, lots of environmentally-triggered deterioration. Zinc rot is getting the best of this coin.

It's a Leif Erickson commemorative coin stamped onto a 1984 penny, which we found odd because in 84 they declared the Leif Erickson day in the U.S. I have no doubt about the Zinc Rot, but still thought it was pretty cool. any ideas how this could have come about? It is still a big mystery for us. Didn't think it was worth anything, just thought it was a really neat mystery. I will try to get the lighting right, so you all can see it better. What looks like buttons on his jacket are the portholes for the oars.

We pondered that it may have been a carnival novelty from one of those penny doctoring machines, or a mint employee sending it through as a planchet for kicks. No-where in the post did we claim that it was an error, This post was just for fun to see how many of you could come to a conclusion or see if you saw something we didn't. It's a hobby, I'm going to have fun with it, you all have been great as always, thanks for the feedback.
