I recently purchased a classic commemorative coin - sight unseen - encased in an old PCGS slab. When I received my coin, I was disappointed to see that the slab was badly scratched.

Other than re-slabbing the coin, is there a way to reduce the appearance of the scratches?

Thank you in advance.

Well-timed post. This spring I plan to address a few slabs with similar issues.

I've had some good results with Meguiar's "Plastx" Clear Plastic Cleaner And Polish. It's made to restore your car's cloudy plastic headlight covers, but it works well on slabs too! You can find it at most auto stores or online at Walmart, Amazon, etc. It usually cost about $7.

I use the Novus product but a lot of people say Turtle Wax is good.

Thank you for your replies!

Based on your recommendations, I decided to search Google and find out ways to treat scratched plastics. Apparently, mild abrasives, such as toothpaste and baking powder work. I used a mixture of both, applied it on my scratched slab, and the slab is cleaner and the scratches are less pronounced.

Thanks again!
