It has been quite some time since I have put a new emperor in my Roman Imperial collection but I have a few on the way now and this just arrived today.

Pupienus (A.D. 238)
AE Sestertius, A.D. 238, Rome, 31mm, 18.53g, 0°, RIC IVii 15, C 30; rare.
Obverse: IMP CAES M CLOD PVPIENVS AVG. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: PM TR P COS II PP. Emperor standing left, holding branch and parazonium; S C in field.

@marti, thanks for helping me learn something today:

Quote:
A parazonium is a long triangular dagger, wide at the hilt end and coming to a point. In Roman mythology, it is frequently carried by Virtus, particularly in early representations. It is also sometimes carried by Mars, or Roma, or the emperor, giving them the aura of courage.
(from wikipedia)

Also, very nice coin!

Very nice indeed
A most excellent acquisition
I was recently tempted myself to acquire a nice sestertius one of this emperor
(with the most unfortunate name)
Cheapskate that I am the bidding dissuaded me !
But I was later rewarded with a nice "phat" Gallienus sestertius
Sometimes patience has its rewards ....
So for now I must make do with my rather miserable example

Thanks guys. I was pretty happy with it. Especially now that it somehow "escaped" its NGC prison. :)
