As for the steps, they've been largely obliterated due to circulation wear, including hits. Raised features on nickels of this era do take a beating. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/15/2021 09:43 am Note CENTS on the coin? The fields around the tops of these devices look like the fields were altered. Thus the design may have been altered on this coin on the die, and also looks like some contact mark on the coin with some incuse marks. Not sure why the dark color is present on this coin. But of the design alteration made the coin taller in profile, then the marks could be contact marks because of the extra thickness, that rims are not protecting. Interest in in this coin? I doubt if any would be created. It would be nice to see a view at an angle to see if the is extra height on that area of the coin? Report this Post to the Staff
