I found this coin in my collection. Looks to be a custom-made piece.
I can't find anything like it. Lots of coins but nothing stamped with this detail.
Let me know what you think. Any help is appreciated.

That is a "repousse", (pushed out) coin. Please give us the weight to determine if it was made from a real penny (I think so). I have a few of these made from US Kennedy 1/2 dollar coins. I have not seen one made from a British penny.

The simple explanation is that somebody did this because they could. Perhaps they were trying to sell these creations. These sorts of private things were not documented very well and quite often the maker or the reason is never known. Perhaps some of our UK members have seen this before.

Like oriole, I've seen these made from Kennedy half dollars but never from a British penny before. The host coin looks genuine to me.

Here's an example of a repousse British penny on Stacks, similar but in better condition. The OP's coin may originally have been gilded, too.
