Just saw this posted on the Newman Numismatic Portal:

Quote:
Saudi Gold and Other Tales from the Mint
Burdette, Roger W. (2021)

Ten essays on U.S. coinage, many focusing on issues of 20th century gold coinage and bullion. Includes the gold standard from 1900 to 1974, gold circulation in the early 20th century, U.S. Mints in the 1920s, missing double eagles in 1928, American gold after the 1933 withdrawal, coin collecting during the depression, gold bullion discs for Saudi Arabia, the Roosevelt dime (1946), and the Franklin half dollar (1948).

So many great books are pouring out into the market lately. I suppose this pandemic allowed for much needed time for authors to write in peace. Roger writes very well and is close to Q. David Bowers in his prolific research and writing, IMO. I have 6 or 7 of his books and they are all excellent and very readable. This one should be no different. A big plus is Roger Burdette's books are usually affordable and printed in a large amount. My last read of his, was "From Mine to Mint" last year.

The NNP has been pumping out a ton of older US Mint archival notes and letters from the mid to later 1800's this month in scanned documents. I've seen quite a bit go by, more than I can keep up with really. I try to check in a few times a week and see all the new stuff that is scanned, most of it I can access usually if it looks good, sometimes it hasn't been cataloged and previewed for the main site yet.

Roger's books are always well-researched and well-written. Recommended!
