I thought postal insurance for coins was not honored. It's happened to me several times, so I no longer bother with insurance, since they did not honor claims. They told me that coins are not covered.
Bingo!... I can say this is a fact when importing coins from the US into Canada. After 8 months of form filling, document providing, emails, phone calls and b.s.(*don't pardon my english) I received a letter of claim denial. (me>

Was it a coin or bullion? Under the postal option chosen, a China 5 Yuan bullion coin(1/20 oz gold) is a coin because of the legal tender denomination... importation of coins is not covered. The coin is issued by definition as bullion, which is not insureable under the other mailing options.(*huh... me>

It's a lose - lose situation... as any insurance often tends to be for most consumers.(fly the flames

)
I have most purchases sent regular mail(if at all possible)... not just because this tends to bypass customs(hey, I don't mind paying what's due. I figure all that when buying), but because it keeps my stuff out of the hands of the possibly incompetant

(?)

or plain thieves(I thought the p.o. paid well?).
My sister is an insurance broker... she is not allowed to talk business in my home. It has been that way since I've had a home. I will not get into the abhorration that I/friends/family have experienced with insurance companies in the past.
Insurers continue to profit in this economic downturn.
... see you got me all riled up now
