Found this penny many years ago. Looks like it's missing its copper insert. Or this is a fake. Only have the 'tail' half. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's one half of a "magician's" coin.
Nice find!
The maker would machine another reverse to insert in the recess and proof!, a two tailed coin.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Looks like the Obverse copper has been removed down to the zinc core,
possibly to make a Magician's coin.

I found one almost identical to this in common change years ago. Not being well versed in the Errors Category, I had assumed that it was a split planchet after strike because mine has a very faint ghosting image of the Lincoln obverse.
