I have found quite a few of these Lincoln shield cents with what appears to be doubling on the dates and mint marks. I have included a couple pics with examples. I am leaning somewhat to mechanical or die wear doubling but the numbers and letters still look pretty crisp rather than the mushy numbers you get on die wear types. Let me know what you all think. In an entire box, I found about 10 or 15 of these in all different dates.

It could be either MD or DDD. To tell for sure, you have to look at all of the devices. If the affect you are seeing are all on the outsides towards the rim direction, then it is Die Deterioration. ( DDD) It the same side of the coin on all devices are the same, it could be Machine Doubling. So lets run this back? So if on Liberty you see the affect on the left sides of the devices, then it is DDD. If it is on the right side on the devices on Liberty, it would be Machine Doubling. Also on the Motto. If the tops of the devices are affected the same, it is DDD. But if the same direction the date and mintmark are altered, is seen on the bottoms of the devices, then it is Machine Doubling. So we can tell, but not with just one image. I hope this helps.

Thank you. Let me get some better images as these seems to be a little out of focus. I am not seeing this on any of the other lettering on the coin though. I will get a couple full coin images and liberty etc.
