I need help from some of the experts here. I have a 2007 LMC that is brown. I's smooth as can be. Looks like paint or something but a finger nail won't take it off. No brush strokes etc etc. Both sides are covered and looks like the edges also.

I don't have acess to a camera any more and would like someone to look at this one.

My question would be, "Why does it matter?"

It's a 2007 cent that coated in something, possibly paint, lacquer, or whatever...but it's damaged. Toss it in the pile, take it to the bank, and keep looking.

Insideout, do you feel better that an "expert"has "helped" you.I know this is a wonderful site for us as a family to give and receive "help' from one another, some of us have a unique way of helping, if you could post a picture, I am sure others like myself(not an expert), just a coin collector, would be glad to assist you with the concerns in which your post addressed, "a picture is worth a thousand words", BE WELL, MIKE

I'm not the one here who calls me an expert, and I really don't appreciate the cander. If the coin is damaged, it's damaged. That's all there is to it. I just don't understand why waste time on damage.

Okay, the 'other' answer. The mint doesn't coat or plate any coins with dark substances. If you cannot peel it off, it's probably a stain, which happens very easily and very regularly on copper with the way the public abuses them these days. After viewing countless hundreds of thousands of coins I have never seen an 'off-color' cent that was not damage, except those that were minted on the wrong kind of planchet. Weighing it will tell you the difference. If it weighs 2.5 grams, it's a normal coin with environmental damage. If it's more than 0.5 grams off that, it could be something of value.

OK I think I can answer your question, so here it goes; Your coin as you describe it was dipped in a bucket of Havana Brown used exclusively on the 1982 Porsche. I am surprised that someone has had that color in their possession for this long and painted the coin that you own. Is it a collectible item? I suppose if your a Porsche fan it is. Thanks for reading this post now lets get back to collecting those doubled dies.

Well It went back into the bucket. After the fact I decided I wanted to find out if it was paint nail poilsh etc etc. Well I can't find it now and I'm not gonna look through all $20 worth of cents for it. coppercoins thank you for the input. It's obvious by stating the word expert I have offended some. I guess I'll start picking my words a bit wiser. Anyway Hope you all have a Merry Holiday

Insideout - My statement wasn't directed at you. Ask for expert advice all you want, that's what you came here for. If I happen to have it, I'll give freely without hesitation. What I don't appreciate is when I call a junk coin a junk coin and someone else doesn't like my method and starts some insinuating crash course on how I'm supposed to answer questions in some manner as to not show that obvious is obvious.

You asked a question that baffled me, frankly. You asked about a coin you said was coated or stained and wanted someone to look at it. I asked a serious question in reply...why bother? If it's junk, it's junk. There are SO MANY valuable coins out there waiting for someone to find them. SO MANY rarities out there that people spend every day. Why dwell on bent, damaged, stained, plated, ran-over coins? Learn the real errors and look for them. Learn the real die varieties and look for them.
