There is ripple/bubble like surface on the obverse both near the date and near Trust in IGWT. It looks 3D but it could just be surface dirt. Please let me know what you think.
The reverse looks like the lamination peeled off of the N and just flapped over next to it. Would you agree? Thank you for your time.
On some areas it looks like something on the coin. Liberty and in front of the face. Looks like a form of glue. On the edge near 'UST' it looks like a bit of debris that wraps around the rim and edge area. The reverse is showing a lamination on the central area. This coin has been around quite a while.
I would not expect it to be an exact straight line if the metals were not mixed evenly or some of the other reasons stated in the above post. I think this coin took a straight linear hit by an object that started by the lower right side of the 'N' with a light hit then bounced and then dug out the N at the top then causing the top layer of the coin to separate (like what a chisel would do to wood), freed itself and landing once again on the 'O' of the ONE then losing contact with the coin entirely.
that is what I think.
Why else would all that damage be so arrow straight like that (see photo below as I marked out the path of the LAM. Please don't burn me at the stake for my observation. - this is my way of learning and getting my thoughts in line with what happened.
Huh!, thanks folks. Maybe I am getting a handle on this. As a Commercial Construction Project Manager, I examine everything to try to find a cause and effect of things. Why they break, how they are assembled and such. I just can't turn that off.
