@JimmyD Can you see any of the notching and elongations of the tops of only one side of only one half of some of the individual serifs like how I can see? They may be caused by DDD but I wonder why they appear as similar to a doubled as they do.

I don't see notching or elongation. You appear to be grasping for air with this one.

I see the issue with the die that struck this coin is a worn out die. Note the tops of the EPU devices. Depending on where they are located, they are pointing towards the closest rim on the coin where they are located. Not a doubled die. As a doubled die would be in the direction that the missing hubbing directed the die to be formed. Machine Doubling pushes devices in the direction the machine moved after the strike. But the issue with this die is die wearing.

Taking a second look, it might be trails? But it affects the EPU most.

Still looking at that area still. Maybe more images of the USA on the reverse. That might show us if it is trails or die wear?
