Every once in awhile ya come across a coin that is absolutely beautiful, especially a Zincoln. Being 30 years old, AND a zinc.... I don't think I have ever found a more beautiful example than this 1991. I'm tempted to submit it. What do you think? I've always been more of a variety collector but if this had the possibility to go MS68 it would definitely be worth it. I'm not a coin grader by any stretch of the word, thus my reason for posting, but thought I'd ask for some input on this one. The glare and luster on this one made it difficult to photo. Thanks!

It would have to make 68 to justify the cost. Too esoteric for me.

Coinfrog.... really..... the word 'esoteric' is way outside my pay grade and you made me have to look it up on Merriam Webster...... Hahaha! : requiring or exhibiting knowledge that is restricted to a small group esoteric terminology broadly : difficult to understand esoteric subjects But THANKS, you improved my vocabulary for sure my friend! No doubt it would have to go 68.... at 67(if it even made that grade) it would barely cover the fees. But, looking at photograde pics, which I'm sometimes like,"What....Really...".. just makes me wonder what this one would slab out at. I know its a gamble, and I have never submitted to a TPG, but I guess I need to get my feet wet at some point in time even if it possibly means losing a few bucks. Wouldn't be the end of the world but at the same time it would be a great learning experience for sure. Thanks!

Don't think it'd be worth it, it has a big hit in the obverse field north-west of the date. That'd hold it to a 66 given how much of an eye catcher it is.

Nice coin, no doubt. I'm thinking MS66+. It's showing hint of early Die Deterioration on the obverse--emerging rim ring. A few light rim dings, somewhat strong hit NE of the date. Very good album coin.

Blazing luster but a couple of hits on the portrait.

Thank you all for your input and replies, much appreciated. I am still learning about grading and now see that I am getting much closer than I was a year or so ago at estimating a grade. I have found from my research that the most absolute minuscule amount of damage to a coin can drop it a grade or two. What looks like a hit NE of the date, and another post said NW of the date, are not any hits at all as you can see by this pic. Not sure what that was on the original Obverse pic I posted, my apologies. I do now see that it does have a few slight rim dings after looking at it again. Still a very nice addition to my album but obviously not worth submitting. Thanks to all!

Quote:It's showing hint of early Die Deterioration on the obverse--emerging rim ring. Meant to ask about this issue regarding a rim ring. I thought I remember reading that grading is based on "as struck" or in other words the way a coin left the mint after being created. I'm learning here about this process and your input is appreciated. Are issues such as a rim ring an automatic reduction in grade?

All in all, it is a very nice coin. Somebody protected it for a long time before it found its way to you.

very pretty, MS67, I suppose it could go 68 if that bright line NE of the date in the first photo is not on the coin

Lots of good characteristics in this coin. Personally, I'm a fan of good steps on the reverse which rings true here, except the bottom step in the middle. You can probably find a comparable coin on NGC or PCGS websites to give you an idea about grades for this coin. You might want to check auction sites, like ebay, to see what comparable graded coins are going for right now to give you an idea whether the costs of good grading is worth the investment. I agree that you can probably find a high TPG grade one to buy cheaper than to get one graded. I will refrain from saying "esoteric" so I don't have to look it up, too! Stay well, Diy89Nurm7

Very nice coin. I'll give it an MS67RD. Nothing special here. Just a slightly modern coin
