Found this one in a bank roll yesterday. I've seen mint marks in the past that were tiny or weakly punched but this one created a question in my mind. You can see the heavy abrasion marks which are only present on the fields in the area of the date and MM. It almost looks like a mint worker tried to polish off and eliminate the mint mark? I don't think it's any sort of die clash because the reverse looks pretty normal in the AME area where a clash would have affected the reverse based on overlays. Just a pretty cool Cent and I thought I'd share for any ideas or feedback. I supplied the close up pic of LIBERTY just to show that there are not any abrasion lines like the ones in question. The fields on both the obverse and reverse are smooth other than the obvious dents and dings. Thanks!

Yeah. Very cool. Mint mark is so weak. I agree that it looks as if a mint worker tried to annihilate it.

Thank you for the replies. I know it's not an error or variety but it's still something pretty neat to come across. If only we knew what was in the mind of the person with the 'polishing dust' when this happened and why they removed so much material in that one particular area. Maybe the mint worker was mad at the Denver Broncos that year that miserably went 2-11...... and decided to do what he did and tuned into a Philly fan... who knows. I love thinking about history and how stuff may have happened. Thank you.
