There's a second ponytail and most noticible on the lower half right side of coin is a distinct pattern but I'm not sure what it is and also a couple of other areas I'm not certain of.

I suspect smoke or dirt, or whatever the source of the black, is highlighting and exaggerating minor features that are present on most nickels of that era.

It's not black.. I reduced the lighting to make those points more obvious in case one could not see what I was pointing out..

More of a case of fading die scratches and some rolling lines. Either way it is a spender. Put it back to work.
