Does PCGS update varieties not listed in population report? Is there something going on with this 2012 D Lincoln Cent? I am wanting to learn something here. I will list pictures of my coin with what appears to be a double eye with heavy doubling around Lincoln's nose, also the reverse. Then compare it to PCGS MS68+RD image of the 2012 D shield cent.

Lincoln's eye on the later shield cents is thickened based on the design. The rest of what you see is Machine Doubling.

SilverCents Thank you for clarification on the Machine Doubling. As to the eye though? Is it possible doubke eye? Or is this just another scrap coin more less? Thanks in advance

Well, as I mentioned, when you compare the eye to other dates, the shield cent will have a thicker eye, which is just part of the design choices made for those years.
You are also probably seeing a scratch on the coin as well, which would just be damage.

So this coin graded MS67RD by PCGS. If it is not a double eye, and "damage", would it grade this high? Because I was thinking maybe they did not see it a damage, so it did not subtract from the grade, and it is a variety they do not recognize? I feel like there is no transparency. Just a return as is..i have been told that it does not mean its not a mint error, they do dont grade that variety. I wish PCGS was more transparent under the mint error submissions. Comments are welcome. Thanks

Please no monitor screen shots. Use you camera directly to the coin for photos. Thanks. to the CCF!

Contact marks in circulation. The material they are wearing, are not a suit of armour or a tank. They are just sent out to do a job that takes a lot of hits, and few misses.

The best I can do until its returned. The bottom eyelid has steps that looked parallel to the other eye when looking through the loop in person.

This came from an original Uncirculated roll. There was one more that was similar in the roll, but not a good enough strike and would be tough to make a case.

One last picture I took under a 10x loupe and zoomed in. Maybe it is only a contact mark, maybe it is a double eye, there just isn't enough detail to prove it. Maybe its not possible. I dont know. It sure looks unique to me rather than a mark of any sort. There is a lot of comparison as to the swollen eye lids top and bottom that they picture does no justice. So, if the graders did not attribute a variety, then it is not. MS67RD Thanks for fall the comments.
