I have been slowly going through a lot of about 6500 memorials
i picked up as part of an estate sale a while ago. Hey, they were free
so what the heck !

About 12-15 % of the lot are 82's.
I was checking naturally for the big 82 DDR.
Having seen rolls and rolls already I found one with doubling
on the reverse. This led me to believe it was not common. Before posting pics. etc. just wanted to ask about the doubling.
T,A,S in States (T-S.E., A-East/N.E., S-middle east:)
AMERICA- N/NW (all letters)
CENT- N and T East.
Lower right side of memorial - east starting at bottom of last column
to bottom of memorial corner (just in front of FG initials)
That is right if looking at coin - left if in reality :)
Kind of looks like MD but it's all over the place. odd directions
and locations etc. Nothing else on the rev. or obv.

Not great shots. Tight as I can go.

If the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" doesn't look like my avatar then its not the known '82 DDR. That doesn't mean that there couldn't be another but without pics it is impossible to give an opinion.

Indian - because of the nature of what you are asking about, it is impossible to determine whether you have a doubled die or worthless Machine Doubling without a good image. Anyone would be guessing with anything less. That's just the nature of the beast.

Hello

I will get some pics. up
I know it is not the big 82 DDR as pluribus looks normal.
Probably only MD but I have seen so many 82's before and nothing
with this doubling. Maybe ten of thousands out there with the same attributes. Just figured if it rang a bell someone could call it
quick. Thank's

Indian - It's only Machine Doubling. This is one of those things that can ONLY be called with images. I know it's a pain in the butt, but it's the ONLY way. Your time, however, has not gone to complete waste - just print this thread, stick it in a notebook, give it a number, put the coin in a holder, give it the same number, and you will forever have the coin with the answer. Over time, you'll have a book loaded with coins and answers you can use as your very own free reference guide.

Very good. Thank you.
I guess it takes looking at more than just 5 or 6 thousand coins of one date to get a more complete picture of the coins attributes.
I had made a decision on my own that just because this was the only
MD I ever found of that date, that it made it rarer than it actually is. I still find this MD interesting. Especially when the doubling
is all over the place and in diff. directions/places etc. Then on either side of the coin or none at all on one side. I picture the
the process in my head of the coin punch and it still puzzles me some
of this phenom. I enjoy troubleshooting things like this. I have read
about the process involved with MD but it still is interesting.
By the way, Lincoln cents of the time period, how many punches where
involved on a normal business strike. ?

Thank's again

Business strike Lincolns of any time period are struck once.
