Hi all, I'm going through some Problems with a seller on ebay I'm I just wanted to post about it to vent/get advise.

Let me preface this by saying I know there are things that I did or did not do that would have avoided the situation, but I still feel I am not in the wrong here.

This starts on Saturday, March 27th. I come across this user's listings and notice that their item prices are low but their shipping is high(think silver dollars for $26.50 with shipping $14 and half dollars for $10 and shipping $14). I think this is an opportunity to get a bunch of decent coins for a pretty good price if I can order a lot of them and combine shipping. So I message the seller:

Quote:
Me: Hi, do you guys combine shipping?

Their response: Yes we do, you can respond with the ones you want and we can create the order in store to adjust the shipping to one fee.

At this point I think I'm good to start firing off offers on their items. The message very clearly implies that they will ship the items for one shipping cost of $14(adjust the shipping to one fee of $14, not however many fees of $14)

So I offer on a bunch of their items and make a deal on a total of 17 of them. after the 17th and final order I get another message on the original one I sent:

Quote:
Them: We accepted the counter offers based off you paying for the shipping. When we combine shipping, the insurance value goes up and we have to pay the difference. We would lose money.

So now this is obviously entirely opposite of what they said they would do, and it's a BS excuse on why they can't combine, so I tell them as much. At this point, mind you, I had racked up over $230 in shipping charges from my offers:

Quote:
Me: A small flat rate box is $7.90 and you can insure up to $500 for only $7 more, are you saying it would cost you guys $250 to ship the coins insured?

Then I get the response:

Quote:
Them: We can combine shipping at full price.

So not only is it very obvious they just wanted to get margin out of me with the excuse of "insurance cost", but making offers screwed me because if I had paid full price and had shipping combines I would be paying less than if I made offers in the first place!

So I'm done with these guys, I ask,

Quote:
Me: Please cancel the sale then, the shipping and handling charges are supposed to be for shipping and handling, not to get extra margin on your items

Then they respond: My boss said that you can order off our website and select that you're picking them up and email us the label, however, we will not be responsible if you do not receive the package.

Now I'm worried at this point because I've made offers that got accepted. In ebay's eyes I have committed to buy these items, so I'm hoping that I can do something to get the sale cancelled and walk away without unpaid item strikes. I'm hoping going along with this will let me get the sales cancelled and I can walk away, because there's no way I trust these guys enough to buy from them outside of ebay.

Quote:
Me: Okay, I can do that, I'm assuming your website has [Redacted] in the name? go ahead and cancel the sales here and I will do that

I get this message back: [Redacted].com

This is the last communication I've received from them, that was Monday march 29th.

Since then I've been waiting for the unpaid item cases to be opened and they haven't happened yet. I sent another message on Wednesday, March 31st

Quote:
Me: Hi, can you please cancel these orders so I can buy them on your website?

Thanks

No response.

Now there's two very important things about these guys. One, they are a physical location, and have had a store for quite a while. Secondly, their ebay account is new. They have 3 feedback total. I tried calling their physical store during hours and had no pickup. At this point I feel I have three options:

First I can do nothing and hope the items sit in my cart for the 30 days they have to open an unpaid item case

Second I can continue to try to get ahold of them and cancel the sale

Third I can just buy the items and leave 17 reviews using each one to illustrate my frustration with them.

I don't like option three because If I Neg bomb them they can just nuke the account and start over, they have almost no investment in the account. Option two is a route I'm willing to take, but I'm worried if it's unsuccessful it closes the door on option one.

So what do you guys think? Did I royally screw up here? Is the seller in the wrong?

I decided not to release the name of the store because the situation is unresolved, if the store refuses to work with me and forces me to pay $238 in shipping charges I will be happy to name it.

Thank you to whoever reads this!

Is there an option 4?

like reporting them to ebay for attempting to conduct business outside of the eBay/PayPal system?

I myself would not pay repetitive shipping charges, especially if they put it all in one shipping box. I'm not sure how ebay works when it comes to selling and their charges, but does ebay only charge for the item listing and no the shipping the seller is requesting?

Wow. As a seller I offer much better customer service & wouldn't have tried to gouge you. I also have my account set up to automatically open unpaid item cases after 4 days. You obviously have a new seller on your hands that doesn't have a clue about customer service. I also suspect they don't have a clue about what an unpaid item case is....

Yes, and it sounded in the first few lines of your post as if that is what you had intended from the outset.

I will give this a shot, it may be easier for me to explain myself in a chat as well, so I may try that

As far as I am aware there's no way for me to reqest ebay to cancel the transaction

I would do this, but there's 17 different transactions, I can't have 17 unpaid item strikes on my account

Hey. I just read this post, this is crazy. Do you think maybe they don't know how to combine the shipping charges, Either way, call ebay, let them know what took place as to the offers and combined shipping, if you have a copy of the emails you can use those to back up your case. I know I have had people state that they received the wrong item because they ordered 2 or more, ebay puts those funds on hold, and the strike is against me. So I know how oyu feel. But when you added them to your cart, it should have been listed as one sale. Call ebay, and keep calling until you get some results. And Yes ask for a supervisor if you have to. So sorry this has happened to you
Things like this makes it hard on every one.

Moral of the Story: don't buy from ebay sellers who charge scumbag high shipping fees. No matter if you "think" you can combine shipping. JUST DON'T DO IT!

In the long term I suspect you're probably best off starting over with a new account and hoping not to be caught by scams like that again.

Sorry that you're going through all that. I don't think ebay can do anything for you yet, until the seller opens an unpaid item case. Since he's a new seller, maybe he just doesn't realize the seller needs to cancel the sales, especially if he's letting some flunkie assistant deal with ebay. My inclination would be to contact them again and make it clear that he needs to cancel all the ebay sales before you can buy them through his website. Worse case is they open unpaid item cases, but since it's clear in the ebay message system that you made the offers with the understanding that there would be combined shipping, I suspect ebay would cancel the sales at that point without penalizing you.

If the items are still just sitting in your cart then you haven't completed the sale and there should be no unpaid item strikes. In theory someone could still purchase the items as you have not completed the sale.
