Damaged coin. Spendable. Not a mint error.

Major pic overload. Deliberately mutilated coin, perhaps by heat or acid. Just get rid of it.

Whoa, someone went to town on this one. I agree with what's been said- the edge is due to acid exposure, which preferentially corrodes the pure copper core over the copper-nickel cladding. It also appears to what we call a "campfire coin," with a large bubble produced by heating.

In the future, try to avoid holding the surfaces of coins you suspect to be valuable. It's obviously not a problem here, but on high-grade coins, the oils in your skin will eventually create fingerprints that damage the value.

Your quarter is suffering from post mint damage ( PMD), caused most likely by heat and/or acid, as mentioned by everyone above. How/why? Who knows as damage can happen a million different ways, but the bottom line is the same, it's just bad damage that occurred after the coin was minted. Sorry, no added premium, but the good news is that it's still worth 25 cents.

Some images were showing the separation of the cladding by heat. Spender.
