Shady80 New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 04/17/2021 12:39 am I also found a 1988 D like this but its not as smooth and uniform as tours. You can see where copper was on it or was tried to be plated but failed. The weight is 2.4 grams and its not magnetic. Can someone help me out with this aswell? Report this Post to the Staff

Isn't a big deal at all though. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 04/18/2021 8:55 pm While your coin is showing gray, this can be achieved by coating the coin with zinc. There are YouTube videos on how this is done. But a closer View of the surface would probably show an example like this one: Note on this coin your can see the zinc bumps that were plated over (before they knew what the issue was back then) are still present. Just coated by zinc. You can see see a split that is showing the copper plating. These are faked errors, sold to the un-liery on ebay. The real examples show smooth fields on the coin: Not the rough finish on the faked missing copper plating coins. Report this Post to the Staff
merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 04/18/2021 9:23 pm Environmental tarnishing/staining can cause discolouration, as can chemical or heat stripping of the outer copper layer. Many ways your coin could be damaged, all are post mint damage ( PMD) and result in no premium I'm afraid. Keep looking! to the CCF! Report this Post to the Staff
