Redshirt I am talking about looking straight at the edge of the coin like you took the pictures .

it almost looks like the coin may have been encased at one time and it may have been bent removing it from the encasement , like a lucky penny pendant or something .

this section particularly .

Definitely damage. One of the pictures shows a surface that indicates that heat may have been involved.

As others have indicated, the coin was damaged outside the Mint. A portion of the edge shows it to be concave in vertical cross-section. This is something you see on Encased Cents (lucky token cents).

Sorry, away from forum for bit... I see what you mean.

The lighting really plays tricks at the edge... there is a ridge and a beveled edge.

TY for the info. I'll hang on to it for fun. At some point I'll bring it to someone in person, but expecting them to tell me the same!
