First time poster...
Ran some coins through the TD Bank coin counter and it rejected a weird looking penny. It has the following features: it's about 1mm in diameter wider than other pennies, it is concave like it was stamped too hard, it's a 1990 penny with no letters, and it has a brassy color. (In fact, it doesn't look like copper at all.) It has a minor amount of darkening on the reverse, so it has been circulated, but it is in very good condition, suggesting the copper has not corroded off. It is a bit out-of-round and the ONE CENT wording seems distorted. The raised edges also look stretched back from the inner diameter somewhat.
Is this some knock-off, an actual rare coin, or common? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
-r
PS: Posted this on another forum too... just trying to get more eyes on the item.
Moved to error variety ,MM

It's hard to say exactly what it is without a picture....but it almost sounds like a broad-strike.

It's damaged - bent. Probably hit really hard by something.

Wouldn't the features be flattened? The edges of lincoln, etc are crisp. Also wondering why it's color is so off?

The color could be any number of things to include environmental damage. The shape and size of the coin is a very solid sign that the coin was damaged. There is no mint error that would bend a coin like that.

HI Redshirt
Thanks for the additonal effort on the pictures .
The rim looks like it has a groove which goes around the coin with a small raised area on either side , Is this correct ?

Hmmm... it has a rim like a regular penny, which is offset (thicker/wider on the liberty side), while thinner opposite and there is a flatter zone of about 1mm just inside the rim before the penny bends more. I think, looking at the sides the rim does seem to be ever so slightly out such that there is a hint of a groove around the penny.
I was reading that this color could come about by someone goofing around with plating solutions or cleaning solutions, but I also read there is a slight chance of an actual brass blank sneaking into the run.
