1957-D Lincoln Wheat Penny Errors - Coin Community Forum

kgenks New Member United States 27 Posts	Posted 04/21/2021 11:23 pm Hello everyone. I have this 1957-D Wheat penny that, to my untrained eye, appears to have various errors. I've included quite a few photos to point out key areas on the obverse. I know the area that is north of the word Libery is likely to be post mint damage. Let me know your thoughts! merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 04/22/2021 12:10 am On the left side under "IN" appears to be post mint damage mark of some sort. The blob on the B in Liberty is a die chip, the mark you labelled as a crack across Lincoln's suit is too linear to be a crack, so it's probably a scratch. On the left side on Lincoln may be a small crack (I'd like to see it closer to be certain). The build up just right of the date looks to be a small collection of die chips (looks to be too broken to be a Cud, but I could be wrong). Your coin is typical of the messy late 50's cents. Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 7018 Posts	Posted 04/22/2021 12:50 am Another possibility...what you labeled as a crack, might be a de-lamination area with lifting at both ends or a struck through copper foil at both ends...Hold onto it for now until you gain better knowledge, I don't think better photos would help us. 2x2 and label it then re-visit it in a few months Report this Post to the Staff

The partially broken post on the letter B isn't such a big deal as pointed out by @merc. I'm not sure about scratch vs. lam across Abe's torso, but agree that it is interesting enough to warrant a 2x2.
