very shiny. Does that mean it's polished? Whizzed? The features on the reverse are kind of muted. "Field" if that's what it's called has no marks though.
It looks like it was nickel plated. For some reason, that was a common thing to do with circulated Buffs back in the 1970s. The spot on the obverse either looks like it is surface crud or is where something (acid?) ate through the plating.
