WHAT HAPPENED? hard to tell from the pics (I'm still trying to figure out how to make better ones) but there seems to be a pretty clear '5' after the 1918 date on this one. imaginationland?

@shathe, looks like some circulation flattening on the rim and date in your picture. As to an extra digit in the date, I do see the bottom of a vaguely 5-shaped blob. I'm thinking it is surface discoloration and Pareidolia though.

Not a 5. Just a mark on the coin. It is impossible during the striking of a coin to suddenly have an extra number appear.
