When you study the minting process you will find there is nothing in the making of the coins that would produce a number on the edge of a cent. So whatever made a mark looking like a number on the edge of your coin has to have been done post mint.

This written on the edge is offend use by the collectors to identify theirs owner in case something happened. I do 'it this for unique coins with international coins in Europe. It is a Constantin I a byzantine coin in gold and it is concave, but in general has a number of the register. this number the will be available for Interpol, FBI and KGB.

Almost looks like the collar needed to be replaced before it got too wide from striking pressure.

Thx for adding that pic @space. I do see stray circulation marks and if I squint that top one does look somewhat like a number 5. I agree with the others that the collars don't have numbers, at least on the surface that forms the edge of the planchet. This seems like Pareidolia to me.
