Found this coin roll hunting but can't make out the "stain" around the crack. Is that normal?

to CCF. Not a die crack. Looks like it is from a welder, so PMD.

First welcome to CCF. Second, you are right to be suspicious @kala. I agree with @john1 that this doesn't appear to be a die crack, but rather something added to the coin after it left the mint.

Very curious. The coin's metal--along the trace of the linear feature--appears to be discolored. Suggests evidence of high heat being locally applied--such a 'weld' action on the coin's surface. Also, die cracks typically don't have that 'wide fuzzy' characteristic that's showing perpendicular to the feature's trace. I'd keep it in a 2x2 for fun.

I thought it was somehow melted too but I also weld on the side and if was somehow welded there should be an initial melt mark on either side which it doesn't have. I then thought it may have been arced electrically to cause the crack from the inside but again the rim of the quarter is intact with no signs of damage on either end. I tried viewing this so many different ways with my coin microscope and it appears as the surface cracked, material somehow oozed out but the shady grey stuff around it makes me question if it was done on purpose because I have never seen stuff this this anywhere before.

Oldfordman I think you are correct as it is quite possibly solder of some sort. The damage to the surface was on only one side of the coin that is what really made me think it was a very odd crack. I was going to upload the obverse but when I looked again with my 10X loupe at an angle it better showed that the solder was sitting more on top of the metal. There was even some fine scratch marks that I could only pull with the 10X that looked like they buffed it with extra fine steel wool or something. Someone fooled me good on this one and I'm going to keep it as a reminder for me to follow up anything suspicious with a 10x. Thanks for the input gang!
