I bought this piece about 30 years ago for US$150, any ideas as to a grade and value? The flan has a rough spot at 10:00 and there is some weakness on the reverse.

Wow, nice coin! I think you got a really good deal on the coin. Elizabeth I shillings today are worth quite a bit, especially in good condition, which yours is. I'd say yours is in AVF condition.

I've seen these Elizabeth I irish shillings being sold for hundreds, even thousands of pounds. I'd say yours is at least £1500 considering the good condition.

Very Fine, lots of detail on Elizabeth, hair ringlets and string details on harp.

Just a bit off centre and weak strike, that is to be expected with hammered coins and given its an Irish issue one, maybe that they did not care too much about quality of strike, long as it had a shillings worth of silver in it.

Overall your piece is stunning and scarce, a seldom seen coin from a long distant era. Think of it, 90% of old Irish is 18th and 19th century Hibernia type copper pieces and if you are lucky Gun Money, an Early Elizabethan shilling is a real rarity.
