I've been looking for a decent one of these for a while. This is a year often counterfeited, and I wanted a real one to maybe have a pair with the real one and a fake one. This coin came up on Great Collections and went for what I considered a fair price so I got it.

On this coin, you can see where the rim gutter affected both sides of the coin:
1951-D-Lincoln-Wheat-Cent-Mint-Error---Off-Center
The gutter helps form the rim:
1951-D-Lincoln-Wheat-Cent-Mint-Error---Off-Center
With the step down on that area, part of an off center can affect that edge of there where die/edge rim make contact with an off center.

Is there a reason why this year is particularly counterfeited? Seems like it should be a pretty reasonably priced coin, no?

I am guessing that this year off center is a common counterfeit because someone got a real one and made a mold or whatever from it and then pounded them out. Once you're set up to make one, you make a thousand. I just saw one on ebay last week and it was up to $15 so not sure if bidders were thinking it was real or not. That's too much for a counterfeit and not enough for a real one.

Thanks for the kind words! And youngmaster I honestly would try to answer your question but am unsure what you are asking about. Nothing on the coin really has a ripple effect.
