I know they did experimental projects with these quarters but they look the same on the outside. I weighed them both several times and it was always the same. Would they be off that much? 5.69 vs 5.52?

How are tolerance and weight correlated? I believe its tolerance and metal value that are correlated

Tolerance is the acceptable deviation from the standard mass. For a quarter, this is 5.67 +- 0.19 g, so anything from 5.48 to 5.86 is considered normal.

Above or below planchet weights would be canceled and re-cycled. No fix on them, but they get out, so I feel they weights are not checked all that close. (Probably on quarters mainly. The vending machines check for weight differences or eject them)

I agree, within Weight Tolerance and are "normal" coins. Both are spendable, Keep searching!

"Gold coins are set to a much stricter tolerance, especially as the weight increases" this contradicts itself...it shows the lower weight and lower value coins having a lower tolerance (as expected)...a double eagle has a .04 while the lighter coins, 1/2, 3$, 1/4 a full has .02 - if the statement were true, then the double eagle should fall to .01 (or so) not go up to .04
