A better question is why is it floating? Have you checked the weight, or does it keep floating off the scale? Seriously though, I see why you are asking, but I have seen other circulated Morgans that have that same look to them... That being said, could the answer be because it is?

Tights,

It would be easier to discern if the pictures were straight-on and not from an angle. Here's a genuine 82-CC.

the mint mark looks suspicious. make sure the letters look just like this. they look too rounded to be genuine

Hi Tighe,
I think it's a fake. The 2 in the date does not match the digit on my PCGS-slabbed example of this date (or on the example SeatedNut posted). The mintmark looks "funny". The roughness on the cheek and neck are suspicious. The little bit of edge visible in the obverse photo seems to have some kind of defect that could be a casting seam.

Still, I would pay up to $1.00 for it as a novelty.

I beleive this to be a fake, mainly because of the date and mint mark. Then I got to looking at the surface and it seems "porous" in a way. This is not my coin, so I can't do better with the pictures. It is thought to be a fake per se, and I thought I'd post it for discussion to get more comments.

If it's just the date and mint mark that are indeed fake on this, it's a good illustration to the new collector how wary you must be when making purchases these days. Research and knowledge on the type of coins you collect is key!!

That looks close enough to be scary. If it weren't for the odd tone and clumsy-looking date I probably wouldn't catch it.
Rest in Peace

It does have a 'casting' look. Having worked in a small foundry and having done castings, it definitely does have that porous look to it.

Liberty's lips and nose don't look quite kosher either, but it could be the angle.
