I picked this one up recently. It is listed in the new Encased Cent Catalogue so there are others out there but it is a very scarce one.

Encased Cents were invented in 1901 for the Pan American Exhibition. You have to wonder what would possess this Cincinati merchant use a Canadian Vicky for his marketing materials when all Encased Cents were new and a novelty. He would have had a hard time finding a ring that would fit!

There aren't very many Canadian Encased Cents from 1901.

Nice but a bit pricey for me. What do you think the retail value is?

The values of scarce Encased Coins are really dependent on who shows up to bid at the auction. There are not many of some of these pieces in existence but at the same time there are not many motivated buyers. I have seen very scarce ones sell for $20 and for $400. I would guess that this merchant ordered maybe 100 of these and that maybe 5 or 10 are left kicking around out there. It is very hard to know. This is the only one I have seen for sale in the last 10 odd years of diligent search.
