I'm a newbie myself, so I have an even more basic question. Where do you get the rolls? Just a trip to the local bank or bank(s)?

to the Community, hawkeye!

Yes, just go into you bank and ask! Be prepared for funny looks or being told no; not all banks are cooperative, but many people here have had success. The good news is that there is usually more than one bank you can try!

When I last roll hunted many years ago, I had a girl "on the inside" that helped me out. It is a great help if you can befriend a teller that will watch for treasures. There are a lot of posts about people that bring gifts or food to the bank workers to let them know they are appreciated.

Everyone has their own methods; I am sure some of the current CRH "pros" will add to what I have said. Also, do not be afraid to ask any other questions, we are here to help!

Haweye,

Get to know the tellers. Ask for loose rolls or buy an amount that you know they are not just going to go into the vault and get out an unopened box. When the economy is bad and around Christmas you would be surprised what people roll up to cash in. Open up different checking account with different banks. Most banks offer free checking with a minimum of $20 or so deposit. This gives you a chance to take back what you don't want to keep without the "good banks" with good tellers getting mad at you.

And a box of crispy cremes never hurts, you give a little you get a little. Good luck to all roll searchers!

I like Neversuited's idea, and I have been trying to do it lately; make sure I get rolls recently dropped at the bank instead of the generic "bank box". I ask for $20 in cents instead of $25, and than usually works. If when I ask they just bring out the box and start to remove $5, I just tell them not to bother with that; I will take the entire box.

Those are awsome finds! Never find anything like that around here. I'd love to find some silver. Nice coins.
