I have yet to find a lamination error, so I am wondering if this is one or if it is from it being a very late die state coin?

I see copper on both obverse and reverse as well. Thanks!

Appears to have been eaten away by acid that has affected the entire coin, but has been applied most aggressively to this particular area. You can tell by the uneven pitting all across the surface. I think Dearborn may have looked a little too quickly at this one before weighing in.

I'd say acid treatment precipitated this condition as well.

Never saw a clad coin with a lamination error - is there such a thing? or are the clad layers too thin to delaminate?

@Rothery it is a thing, a great example was posted not long ago of a delaminated clad layer on a quarter. Can also occur within any of the individual layers if the alloy isn't mixed properly.
