After finding my first 1988 RDV-006 the other day, I started checking out the population reports on PCGS. While doing so, I decided to take a look at a few of their illustrating examples to compare the condition to my own. While going through the page for red/brown, I noticed that one of their three illustrating examples was very clearly a misattributed RDV-005, not an RDV-006. I think this is a pretty awful look for PCGS to have misattributed coins out there, especially when they charge such exorbitant rates for error and variety attribution on top of their standard high pricing. Even more embarrassing that they then used the misattributed coin as one of the illustrating examples for the variety.

It is not the first time this has happened. Thus my comment: "Buy the coin, not the plastic." Make sure the coin is correct before buying the coin. Machine Doubling to them is okay. Finger prints are okay. Coin contact is ignored. But to an avid collector, they are deal breakers. So buy, the coin, and not the plastic makes good sense, before buying the coin. What if you bought a coin with an issue that I mentioned? Now you have a problem coin. You end being offered less and taking a loss, because of their and your error, not checking the coin, before the purchase. Buy the coin, not the plastic should be your motto moving forward. Realize that the coin must be, what the plastic says it is. That way you will have what you want, and not have buyers remorse. Hope this helps before your next purchase.

@Coop not a purchase, this is one of their illustrating examples on their website. I just thought it was a bad look that they are illustrating the variety with a misattributed coin. I don't buy coins, my collection is 100% CRH finds.

We know that, but it is up to the company to correct their issues. Who wants to tell the king, that he has on, no clothes. I think they are listening too close to what their customers are telling them. If they want my opinion, I'll wait for them to ask. But they haven't yet. So I help watch out for the buyers. Alerting the innocent ones. Knowing what your buying comes before buying a coin. If they change, they will be the ones to decide that. No me. It is their reputation that is a stake.

As coop stated, we have discussed this previously. As far as I am aware, there is only 1 correctly attributed coin in a PCGS MSRD holder. NGC however, is right on with their attributions. I own a MS65RD example that I discovered myself and had holdered by NGC. It was top pop for 2 years before being beaten mid last year. It is worth noting, and while I cannot confirm this as fact, the NGC MS66RD and PCGS MS66RD, are the same coin
