Hello all. Just recently picked up some Morgans and I am wanting to see what you think the grades would be.
I know the pictures are not the best, but they are the best I can do at this point in time. Just going by the pics, what would your guess be?
Thanks in advance!

This coin is a little dirty but I did not want to attempt to clean it. 1890CC

Hey JD,

I'll let someone else do the grading, I just wanted to let you know that you don't have to construct the "click to enlarge" in your posts. The forum does it automagically. It has a built in javascript that will resize it to 400 px wide (if it's over that) for the post and add the click to enlarge. I already fixed it.

I will weigh in with the following:
90cc- VG
91cc F+
92cc EF (I like to see some traces of mint luster to make EF, I cant tell from the pic)
92s F (Cleaned)
93 VG+

Nice better date circulated morgans.

I like that a lot better. Thanks Bobby.

The 92 CC does appear to have luster.

I can see where the pics for the 92 S appears to have cleaning, but it really does not look like that in person. I will take it to someone who can tell me for sure this weekend.

Hi JD--

Giving my usual caveat of the difficulty of grading coins from images (see my own threads on 90CC and 91CC for problems with images) and not taking into account possible damage or cleaning, and admitting that the images aren't all that clear, I'll give them these grade ranges:

90CC - VG-10/F-15
91CC - F15/VF-20
92CC - VF-20/25
92S - VF-15/20
93 - VG10/F12

I used my own PCGS-slabbed Morgans as a reference collection. For comparison, my highest PCGS graded circulated Morgan is VF-30 (93CC) and has somewhat more obverse hairline than your 92CC, so I started from there. However, given my recent drubbing by PCGS, these grades above might be slightly generous. Whatever you do, don't clean them! Leave them just as they are. Don't worry about the dirt or tarnish or whatever is causing the darkness; I have a PCGS slabbed 89CC which is really dark and a 79CC slabbed by PCGS which is even darker, almost as dark as your 90CC; both are slabbed G-06.

One thing I have to constantly remind myself about Morgans, especially after a mauling by PCGS is that there are only a finite number of them and that anyone who has even a single Morgan has a measurable part of a piece of history which is mine, mine, MINE! They can't take it away from me. I treasure them all!
