I saw this posted on ebay and I'm curious to know if you guys think it is authentic or fake? Something tells me the coin in the image is not real. Perhaps the design features on the coin are what is throwing me off. The edge design also seems to be a bit off. Here are a few comparison photos, with the top two coming from the ebay post, and the bottom two representing a known authentic piece:

You are comparing the ebay version, without inner circle (upper images), with the version with inner circle beside the beads (lower images).

The coins without inner circle were struck at the Heaton mint, while the coins with inner circle were struck in Egypt (I believe).

I am missing the H-mintmark on the ebay coin, and for me the digits of the year 1917 and the letters of PIASTRES are also wrong. I tend to say this is indeed a fake.

"ART HIGH GRADE COIN" -

It's written in the listing and also a few negative feedback about fakes ...

At least seller wrote it in the description, so that's a plus ? Basically saying it's a copy without using the word copy.

Good catch.

"Silver cover" = plated.

This seller is bad news for coins based on feedback and a quick look at some recent sales (Russian coin in deceptive slab, etc.)

I agree with everyone, top coin is a fake. The bottom is a real coin. These are lovely big coins and very collectible.

Although they contain about $20US of silver I find the cost of them is around $50US or so for a reasonable one, hence the impetus to fake them.
