I will admit I am still learning about common occurrence on coins. Could someone please elaborate for me what is happening on (the GOD WE TRUST) text of the coin I am not sure what to call this and if it is a common thing to see. Thank you in advance for you cooperation and knowledge.

Given the photos posted, there appears to be a ridge ring--which can cause lettering details to appear worn. The ride ring is an artifact of advancing die deterioration--not uncommon.

A lot of split plating. zinc rots starts, there is no turning back for this coin. It is just a matter time. Very spendable.

Completely agree I like to find and understand these discrepancies before I find them in a good condition coin. The more I learn now the less I ask later. There is just a big gap in knowledge on my part.

The gap in my knowledge seems to get bigger every year, not smaller.

It is a combination of maybe some minor grease and a heavily worn die.

I agree, looks like Ridge Ring, but it's very difficult to see your coin. Practice your photography please, and always show us both sides of the coin.

Using my tablet, gives me a new perspective of this coin. The motto devices were over polished, removing most of the devices. The Ridge Ring, removed the central areas of the devices. Nothing is widened like a Struck Through Grease issue. So the next time it faces alterations, it will be retired. Just pushing the dies past the limits. Just a spender coin, unless you want to save it as a show and tell coin to another new collector. No premium for this coin. Or just put it back to work.

Thank you very much Coop. I really appreciate the detailed explanation thinking about I have seen these before but I has been a while since I have not been actively hunting for sometime. I may keep it for an example.

Well unlike Sherlock Holmes, I think out loud so everyone can follow along, and correct me it they see something else. Sometimes a tablet will let you enlarge images a lot more easily. The problem the tablet, it harder top images with. But I sometimes don't have access to my computer.
